SproutBook (mysproutbook.com) is a small garden-planning project. This page explains, in plain language, what data we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version: the free tools on this site work entirely in your browser and need no account, we only receive your email if you choose to join the waitlist, and analytics only run if you accept them.
If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address and which page you signed up from. We use it for one thing: emailing you updates about SproutBook and letting you know when the app launches. Your email is delivered to us as a notification through Resend (our email delivery provider) and recorded as a signup event in our analytics tool, PostHog. We don't store it in a database of our own beyond that, and we never sell or share it for marketing by anyone else.
If you use the Planting Zone Finder, we store the zip code you enter in a cookie in your own browser (called sproutbook_zip) for up to a year, so the homepage can show you relevant planting recommendations on your next visit without asking again. This cookie is first-party only — it's never sent to PostHog, Resend, or any other third party, and it's not tied to your identity. You can clear it any time via your browser's site data settings.
With your consent — asked for via the banner on your first visit — we use PostHog, a product analytics tool, to understand which of our free tools people actually use. The events we record are simple: a tool was started, a tool was completed, a waitlist form was submitted, or your hardiness zone was looked up. If you decline, no analytics run at all. Your accept/decline choice is remembered in your browser's local storage so we don't ask again. Analytics data is processed on PostHog's US cloud.
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider (Vercel) processes standard technical data — such as your IP address and browser type — in server logs to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. These logs are retained briefly and are not used to profile you.
The raised bed planner, companion checker, and plant library run in your browser. Your bed dimensions and plant choices are not sent to or stored on our servers. There are no accounts, no advertising trackers, and no sale of personal data — to anyone, ever.
We use a small number of service providers to run the site, each receiving only what's needed to do its job: Vercel (website hosting), Resend (delivering waitlist signup emails), and PostHog (analytics, only with your consent — plus the waitlist signup event described above). Each processes data under its own privacy policy and our agreements with them.
You can decline analytics via the consent banner, and withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings — the banner will ask again on your next visit. You can ask us at any time to tell you what data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it (including removing you from the waitlist). Just email grovium@gmail.com and we'll handle it promptly. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA, UK, or California), these may also be legal rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed, or until the waitlist has served its purpose. Analytics data is retained according to PostHog's standard retention settings. Server logs are retained briefly by Vercel.
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us their email, contact us and we'll delete it.
If we change how we handle data — for example when the full SproutBook app launches with user accounts — we'll update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
